Anyone who was there in holiday 2005 remembers Mario Kart DS. Hell, I even had a giant sticker from this game on my bedroom wall! In a lot of ways there is mario kart PRE DS, and mario kart post DS.
On one hand, the pre DS games had a lot of experimentation. Not much would stay the same… 64 felt completely different from Super, Double dash reinvented the series again…
Ds on the other hand felt… clinical. Controlled. It had a futuristic feel, rather than a kid friendly one like the earlier entries.
It was also the first in the series to implement retro courses… and ONLINE PLAY!
I used to need one of these things to play online… in a world before every house in the world had wifi! Crazy times.
Not my favorite mario kart, we’ll touch on that one eventually, but a solid 9 out of 10 for this innovative, fun DS game.
